How to increase Vocabulary of students:

  1. 1. Develop a reading habit. Vocabulary building is easiest when you encounter words in context. Seeing words appear in a novel or a newspaper article can be far more helpful than seeing them appear on vocabulary lists. Not only do you gain exposure to unfamiliar words; you also see how they’re used.
  2. 2. Use the dictionary and thesaurus. dictionaries and thesauruses are helpful resources for develop the vocabulary. They can jog your memory about synonyms that would actually be better words in the context of what you’re writing. 
  3. 3. Play word games. Classic games like Scrabble and Boggle can function as a fun way to expand your English vocabulary. Crossword puzzles can as well. .
  4. 4. Practice using new words in conversation. It’s possible to amass a huge vocabulary without actually knowing how to use words.

Language serves as a means of communicaton and thought: 

Language is a means of communication that is used to transfer information, ideas, and feelings from one person to another. Language is also a system of communication based upon words and the combination of words into sentences. By using language, people can develop their knowledge and know about something. The main use of language is to transfer thoughts from one mind, to another mind. The bits of linguistic information that enter into one person's mind, from another, cause people to entertain a new thought with profound effects on his world knowledge, inferencing, and subsequent behavior.


What are the differences between read aloud and silent reading:


Activity to teach autonyms to the students at the elementary level: 

 Antonyms are opposites. Opposites are an important concept to teach students. Understanding this concept will help students increase their vocabulary, better describe, and follow directions. 

1. by Teaching the concept pairs together and using concrete examples. 

2. by Teaching the meaning of each word and which concept relates the opposite words. For example, have students hold ice and say cold and then hold a hot potato and say hot. Temperature is the concept that relates them. 

3. by using the door to describe open and shut. I believe that when students, especially ESL students, have a concrete example the words click.

4.by conducting A fun activity is having students go through old magazines and cut out pictures to represent opposites. 

5. Another fun activity can be organised that is saying “Tell me the opposite of…” and see if students know the opposite.

6. by word games and using pictures we can teach to students about antonyms.


Ways to increase the Vocabulary of the children:  

1.by Introducing them to a wide range of words in interesting texts.

2. Make sure they encounter a new word many times.

3. Make sure they encounter a new word in many contexts.

4. by Providing explicit vocabulary instruction related to each text they read.

5. by Discussing word meanings with them.

6. by Teaching them how to recognize the important words in a text.

7. Helping them to recognize and use meaningful morphemes (word parts in longer words).

8. by Teaching them to use context to derive the meanings of words.

9. by Teaching them to use the dictionary or glossary as an aid to verifying meaning. 

10. helping them to integrate previously known definitions with new ones as they meet them in in texts.

11. Teach them to make connections between words to understand their meaning.
