Work in Work Education:
Work means those activities releted
to physical labour and which fulfils
our responsibilities towards self,
society and other people.
Meaning of Work Education:
Work Education is an inseparable
part of education. Work education
is considered purposeful and
meaningful physical labour,
which is organized as the inherent
part of educational process.
Work education emphasizes
on including knowledge, understanding,
practical skills in educational activities.
The concept of work education
can be understood better
through the following
factors:
1. It establishes coordination in
hand and brain.
2. Socially useful physical labour
is inherent in educational activities.
3. It is associated as an essential
factor with all the aspects of
education in multilevel education
system.
4. It is based on the principle of
learning by doing.
5. It is an essential and significant
factor in learning processes.
6. It is visible in the form of useful
services and productive work for
community.
Objectives of Work Education in school are:
1. To Develop respect for manual work and regard for manual workers.
2. To Inculculcates socially desirable values such as self-reliance, helpfulness, cooperative team work, perseverance, tolerance.
3. To Develop proper work habits and values such as regularity, punctuality, discipline, honesty, efficiency, love of excellence and dedication to duty.
4. To Develop self-esteem and confidence through achievements in productive works and services.
5. To Develop a deeper concern for environment and a sense of belonginfess, responsibility and commitment to the society.
6. To Appreciate the utility of productive work and services to the community.
THE FOUR PILLARS OF EDUCATION
FOUNDATION:
Learning to_know: Leaming to know implies leaming how to learn by developing one’s Concentration, Memory skills and Ability to think. Learning to know involves the development of knowledge and skills that are needed to function in the world.
Learning to do: Learning is the process of acquiring new, or modifying existing, knowledge, skills, values or preference. The ability to learn is possessed by humans, animals and some machines etc.
Learning to Live together: Learning to Live together is an interfaith and intercultural programme for ethics education that contributes to nurturing ethical values in children and young people.
Learning to be: Learning to be involves activities that foster personal development (body, mind and spirit) and contribute to creativity, personal discovery and an appreciation of the inherent value provided by these pursuits.
MAHATMA GANDHI REGARDING WORK EDUCATION:
1964-66 Commission realized the need for a big change in the academic form of education. Gandhiji spoke about including productive work as the medium of education in the education process
compulsorily. According to him all the subjects like arithmetic, science, environment, history, geography and civics should be taught through the carpentry, masonry, cultivation, printing and other productive works.
In the words of Mahatma Ghandi, Our objective is that there should be intellectual development of an individual along with
profession and handicraft. Therefore, I believe that instead of teaching only professional and handicrafts,
total education should be given by its medium. According to Gandhiji the activities related to work education should be organized and convened
by co-relating with the other subjects instead of organizing it separately.
Rosseau Regarding work education:
Rosseau theory of education emphasized the importance of expression to produce a well-balanced, frecthinking child. He believed that if children are allowed to develope naturally without constraints imposed on them by society they will develop towards their fullest potential, both educationally and morally.
KOTHARI COMMISSION AND ITS VIEW ON WORK EXPERIENCE.
Kothari Commission (1964-66) writes ‘Work-experience’ which involves participation in some modem form of productive work under conditions approximaty to those found in real life situation,
should be introduced as an integral part of education at all stages.
The school and the community should be brought closer through suitable programms of mutual service and support. Work experience and national service, including participation in meaningful and
challenging programm$ of community service and national reconstruction should accordingly become
an integral part of education.
Work education bridges gap between manual and intellectual works:
Work education is a conscious effort to bridge the gap between manual and intellectual work, giving a meaning and purpose to the learning process. It not only develops love for manual work and a sense of dignity to labor but also promotes the creative qualities of the child.
What is behavioural changes in learners?
This involves using the skills and knowledge within your work environment that makes the learning stick, causing a behavior change that produces desired results. In this step, it is important that you experience early success.
Mention two activities of work education for elementary learners to develop social skills:
Practise talking through role play, puppets and storytelling. Let your child see you using good manners, like please and thank you. This will encourage them to act this way with their peers.
Find moments for learning in play
Children use lots of social skills when playing. It can be helpful to spot opportunities in play for learning. You can:
- Ask your child to help with tasks, and see if they’ll try activities with others, to build teamwork skills.
- Teach your child positive ways of responding to winning, losing or not getting their way.
- Show them you understand when they’re upset, but help them see what the positives could be (might the outcome have made their friend happy?).
- Show them what sharing looks like when playing at home.
Objective of behaviour change programme:
Behaviour change programs tend to focus on a-few theories which gained ground in 1980s behaviour change.Programs usually focus on activities that help a person. or a community to reflect upon their risk behaviours and change them to reduce their risk and vulnerability are known as interventions.

with other curricular subject:
1. The ability to set up or test a new project

institutions and methodologies.

a variety of forms, and identify which
might be most appropriate.

culture in an organisation.

theory into practice.

upon in future studies.”
